6 Fall Shows That Made It onto Our DVR

6 fall shows that made it onto our dvr!

Fall is a time for renewal — of your DVR queue. But agreeing with your S.O. on which shows to watch can be challenging. Let editors (and soon-to-be-married couple) Brooke Siegel and Dan Murphy be your TV guides.

Boardwalk Empire
Martin Scorsese produces (and directs the pilot of) the HBO show about Prohibition-era Atlantic City.
She says: After the Mad Men-inspired fashion bonanza, I’m ready for the Roaring Twenties to hit the runway. And Steve Buscemi is always compelling.
He says: A famous film auteur, gangsters, molls, booze, and a Sopranos-size void — what’s not to love?
Premiere: HBO, September 19, 9 p.m. EST.

Nikita
The remake stars Maggie Q as a rogue spy trying to take down a secret government agency that trains assassins.
She says: Last Thursday’s premiere showed promise, if only for the presence of hottie Shane West. Besides, I miss Alias.
He says: My girlfriend misses Alias. [Ed note: Aw. Vomit.]
Airs: The CW, Thursday, 9 p.m. EST (download the pilot on iTunes).

The Event
All we know about the intentionally vague plot: It involves a life-altering, worldwide conspiracy.
She says: I’m skeptical. Can it succeed where Lost failed? (Is it me, or does everyone have Jimmy Fallon’s Lost song stuck in her head?)
He says: You win this time, ad wizards.
Premiere: NBC, September 20, 9 p.m. EST.

No Ordinary Family
After a plane crash in the Amazon, a typical American family develops superpowers.
She says: It’s everyone’s fantasy to wake up and discover he has supernatural abilities — just ask J.K. Rowling.
He says: Do I think the holidays would be more fun if my dad could fly and my sister could pick up cars? Yes, I do.
Premiere: ABC, September 28, 8 p.m. EST.

The Walking Dead
A group struggles to survive in a zombie-infested postapocalyptic world, written, directed, and produced by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption).
She says: The undead are so hot right now.
He says: Sure, it’s lowbrow territory. But if anyone can make zombies classy, it’s AMC.
Premiere: AMC, October 31, 10 p.m. EST.

Running Wilde
A morally bankrupt billionaire (Will Arnett) tries to win back his do-gooder childhood sweetheart. From Mitch Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development.
She says: Minus two points for the title. Plus a million points for the Arrested Development pedigree.
He says: I worry the plot will go stale. But Mitch Hurwitz could write a Subaru commercial, and I’d TiVo it.
Premiere: Fox, September 21, 9:30 p.m. EST.
