When we posted pictures of our refrigerators on Facebook, someone asked why we didn’t have any containers of fuzzy, forgotten things lurking in the back. Answer: We probably do. But if the mold in question were by ceramicist Heather Knight, we’d put it smack in the middle of the living room.
The 32-year-old sculptor started throwing pottery in high school and today has a studio in North Carolina where she produces porcelain wall hangings (pictured above), bowls, and vases that are three-dimensional takes on fungi, sea creatures, seedpods, fruit skin, succulents, and more.
Everything in nature inspires her, she says, but what makes Knight’s work so captivating is how she isolates textures and plays with scale, giving her creations a sometimes-shocking, always-intriguing microscopic look.
The dishes and tiles are mostly all white, though some of the bowls are glazed pale blue, yellow, or green on the inside. We sense your collection growing already.
Available online at heatherknightceramics.com, $25-$475.
