She’s made convertible bags, landlubbing neoprene, and sunglasses that throw shade. So when we heard L.A.-based Alexandra Cassaniti was taking on T-shirts, we had to see how unplain a plain white tee could be.
Crafted from all-natural, unbleached cheesecloth (yes, the kind you make cheese with) and flax-based osnaburg (a textile that dates back to the 1730s), the tops and tunics are designed to become more unique with every wear and more durable with every washing — not to mention completely biodegrade when you decide they’re done. Each piece comes with a pouch of iron-on patches (think L.A. beach club and peace spelled with a shark fin), ready to mend any fabric tears — though random application is highly encouraged.
Created with layering in mind, the boxy tees and tanks are available in three lengths. (We spied the simple cropped version thrown over a black cami and maxi skirt, and the effect was trés surf city chic.) Or opt for Sac of Sheet, a robe and matching nightcap ideal for summer slumber. Each style’s run is limited, so don’t sleep on it.
