Our most recent act of kindness was ordering that extra box of Thin Mints (you know, to support the Girl Scouts).
A new excuse to do good for slightly selfish motives: A-Thread, an indie label and online boutique created by a brother-sister duo with ethical production and philanthropy in mind.
Shop affordable, quirky-preppy styles (fuchsia skinny jeans; shrunken button-downs; high-waisted sailor shorts; retro, polka-dot bandeau tops) with serious karmic incentive: Five percent of sales goes to a charity that visitors select from a rotating list. This season the site’s partnered with Kiva and Children of the Night, among others.
Nearly every item is produced stateside, including one-of-a-kind scarves and maxidresses that are sourced and designed in the label’s downtown Los Angeles studio.
Charity begins at home. But there’s no shame in starting with your closet.
Available at a-thread.com, $9-$160.
