Had you told us that our list of spring wardrobe essentials would include a crop top of all things, we’d have laughed at your scrunchie and walked away.
That was before we fell for painter Salvatore Principe’s silk charmeuse version with delicately cuffed sleeves, a zippered back, and one-of-a-kind mosaic tile print. Joining the newly reinstated classic in Principe’s debut collection: brightly colored rompers, heart-stamped leggings, and thigh-grazing frocks with girlish ’80s flare.
The Florida-based artist wanted to expose his work to a bigger audience, so he shifted from canvas to clothing with the aid of designer Katherine Kin (Marc Jacobs). The duo devised multiple silk silhouettes, then printed them with photos of his paintings.
The result: pastel brushstrokes that sweep across high-waisted skirts and flouncy T-shirt dresses and a Black Transit design that mimics illuminated stained glass. (We recommend the latter as a sweetheart mini.) Consider them art for your closet.
Available online at indiestrie.net, $176-$264. Free shipping on all orders within the United States and Canada before June 2. To see styles, go to beheartfelt.com.
