You’ll sit on a dirty stoop surrounded by pigeons just to be out in the fresh spring air. But those warm breezes are much more comfortable when taken in from Gallant & Jones’s new deck chairs.
The brainchild of Vancouver-based gal pals Tamra Devine and Gwyneth Parks, the stripy, cheerful loungers were inspired by designs spotted along the Thames. The pair did some research and found the style hadn’t caught on in North America.
Devine’s got a woodworking background; Parks’s is design. Every chair, from cutting and sanding the black walnut wood to choosing the North American and French textiles to final assembly, is done by these two — making the price ($175-$400) quite a value.
The garden collection has an adjustable pillow for when you’ve had one too many G&Ts (full disclosure: Many of the interchangeable fabrics are not weather and fade resistant).
As for the beach variety, it’s made with high UV-resistant Sunbrella outdoor textiles that are easily spot-cleaned with soap and water.
They fold for easy carrying, and each weighs about ten pounds. Trust us, your bum will thank you.
