Last week we met a dashing jet-setter at a global market, then had a rendezvous of unspeakable fun at his studio.
In other words, we got a little handsy with Alex Caputo’s new bag and belt line, Caputo & Co.
The Venezuelan designer cut his teeth at Gap (under current Mulberry creative director Emma Hill) and teased us with menswear (his leather man bag label sells at Barneys New York) before venturing into lady wares.
His passion? Of-the-moment mixes of tanned hides and loomed textiles. Consulting for top-shelf labels (he’d rather not name names) and a passion for craft-based nonprofit Comunidades de la Tierra have left him with some of the best sources on the market.
Fall in love with waxed leather-handled buckets and cross-body mini bags with wraparound, colored woven cords. Braided belts and reversible bucket totes (leather on one side, bright wovens on the other) may inspire some heavy petting.
We’re excited just thinking about them.
Available online at shopbird.com, $125-$650. To see styles, go to caputoandco.com.
